Year 8 Motivational Speaker
Year 8 Motivational Speaker
The last session on Wednesday, the Year 8’s experienced a performance from an inspirational speaker, William Green. William had an amazing and successful career in American Football, when he played running back. William participated in college football for Boston and received All- American honours when Cleveland Brown chose him for the first round of the NFL draft. As a school we were very grateful and honoured to hear what he had to mention and describe when it came to being your own self and not letting anyone knock you down. William also got the excitement rolling with inviting others up on stage to help with demonstrations. One demonstration was when he invited 3 students of all different sizes up onto the stage. William let them stand on his back as he did a push up to symbolize no matter how big or small it is you can always get through it and reach what you want to reach. As a whole, we all felt it really helped with our understanding of the different points which William had mentioned. As time went on during the speech, William shared an emotional story he experienced at a young age. This includes, when his parents sadly passed and he had to take charge. He had two younger siblings that he had to start to take care of and look out for. William pushed through this moment in his life by looking on the brighter sides of his life instead of the negative. These points include the difference between sight and vision, the importance of the differences we make, the fight against the urge to quit and pushing perseverance it was more about the size of the heart that will get you to wherever you want to go. This has influenced us as students by being true to yourself and always striving towards your goals in life.
