こんにちは!Hello!

Did you know that West Beach Primary School is 1 of 300 schools across Australia with access to the ELLA (Early Language Learning Australia) App?  As a school we were successful in applying to be part of the trial phase of this amazing new resource.

In 2019 we began using the apps with our Reception students and in 2020 all Reception and Year 1 students will be given the opportunity to access these Japanese apps at WBPS.

ELLA is a digital play-based program that includes a series of interactive applications (Apps) that make language learning engaging and interesting for children in the early years of schooling.

The children have been enjoying exploring and interacting with the apps. I have loved hearing the students imitating and meaningfully using the Japanese language as prompted in each of the activities.

Feel free to pop into the Japanese Room with your child and they can show you what the apps can do!

Science

In Science, students across the school have been working hard to develop their concepts of gravity, push/pull, air resistance, magnetic forces and electrical circuits.

Rooms 1, 2, 3 and 6 have learnt about bouncing and sliding where they used a ramp and balls to investigate these actions.

Rooms 4, 5, 8 and 15 have learnt about push/pull actions and how Isaac Newton discovered gravity and the forces associated with it.

Rooms 7, 9 and 10 have been focusing on air resistance and making a parachute that can move safely to the ground.

Rooms 11, 12 and 14 have been investigating electrical circuits and discovering how to create one as well as experimenting on how to include a switch in a circuit.

SPORTS NEWS:

Congratulations to Mike Williams and Zane Rooney who have made the AIRPORT SAPSASA swim team. Mike will be swimming in the 12 Boys Butterfly and Zane will be swimming in the 10 Boys freestyle relay.  This is a huge effort and something that you should be extremely proud of. Good luck boys. Massive thank you to Marnie Day, Travis McKenzie, Jane Bray and Geoff and Angie Ryles for transporting our students to the trials at Immanuel. Couldn’t have happened without your support.

Two weeks ago we ventured to Glenelg Lacrosse Club to compete in the annual Lacrosse carnival. The students had a ripper day competing against other schools from the local area and found the experience an excellent way to showcase some of their Lacrosse skills.

I was extremely please with how all students represented West Beach Primary School in such a positive and enthusiastic manner. It is easy to be an instant expert at these carnivals but our students played hard, they played fair and played safe which is all I can ask of them.

Our 4/5 girls made the finals on the day but unfortunately went down by a couple of goals to a very polished Immanuel side. Great effort girls. These types of events simply can not to ahead without the support of parents and staff. A huge thank you to Jo Ness and Barbara Cooper who took the time to support our students on the walk to the fields. Thank you to parents who helped out on the day such as Tricia Nixon, Nat Scutchings and Natasha Rowlings. Apologies if I have missed any parent who helped out on the day! A big thank you to Mr Bachnish and Ms Iachini (and a cameo from Mrs Ramsey) who took time out of their busy teaching and learning program to assist with the supervision/coaching of our teams.

P.s How electric did our new sports tops look?

I’ll answer that for you. They looked sensational.

Kind regards,
