MASQUERADE

VCE Theatre Studies Performance
The magic of ‘Masquerade’ has been and gone. On May 10 and 11, the VCE Theatre Studies class performed their production of ‘Masquerade’ by Kate Mulvany.
Although this was their assessment task, the play was open to the public and we had wonderful houses for both evenings. Audiences enjoyed the great humour and tender moments the play created. The students themselves performed exceptionally, both the performers on stage, as well as those in tech and back stage roles.
I cannot speak highly enough of our class. These students act more like a theatre company than a school class. They continually committed their time and efforts to make this an incredible show.
They came in to school from 9 am -5 pm twice on the school holidays; they stayed at school until 5 pm every Friday afternoon for months and often, the set team, stayed back after school to paint set pieces.
The vibrant set, costume, lighting, prop, sound and makeup designs created a magical mood, supported by the strong performance from cast. The show was also directed and promoted by students.
Thank you to all of you who came to share the show with us. Thank you to the parents who drove students to rehearsals or waited patiently while we finished work.
I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished in such a short space of time. Producing a two-act musical in only two and a half months is an incredible feat.
We hope you enjoyed the performance and hope to see you later in the year when our students perform their monologues.
We also look forward to any committed theatre students currently in Year 10 joining our ranks next year.
