Student Testimonial

My name is Millie and I am in Year 8. I started Arrowsmith in Term 2 this year. I am going to share my journey so far.

Before I came into the Arrowsmith Program at Oakleigh Grammar, for as long as I can remember, I would dread going to school. I knew I was not going to understand the work, and had given up on even trying. There was always a high chance that I was going to get in trouble for something, like not doing my homework or talking to the person next to me. Because I did not understand the work and I would tune out, I felt like what’s the point of trying when I knew I could not succeed. I would then come home and my parents would also be angry at me. All in all, school was not a happy place for me.

My parents did some research and decided to move me to Oakleigh Grammar to do the Arrowsmith Program. It seemed out of my comfort zone, but now I am so glad I have moved here. Arrowsmith has helped me in so many different areas. Before I came, I could not spell many words and I was afraid of maths, but now my spelling and reading has improved, and maths is not as scary to me anymore. I would have to say that my confidence in writing and learning has improved the most. This time last year there would be no way I would get up in front of people and make a speech. I still have a fair way to go, but I know I am well on the way, and I could not do this program without the incredible support of my teachers. They are with me every step of the way, and helping me to become the learner I always wanted to be.

If your child sounds a little like me, then I would highly recommend that you talk to our Admissions Officer for more information on the Arrowsmith Program.
