In 2015, we both entered the Maths Talent Quest individually. Katelyn's entry was based on the game 'Greedy Pig' and Kaitlin's entry was '1000 Lockers'.

In that competition we both received Distinctions, but knew we could do better and planned on creating an even more impressive project for the 2016 Maths Talent Quest.

So a year later, we decided to combine our talents and work together to improve Katelyn's 2015 entry, since it was a favourite among the judges and we had an awesome idea to modify it.

We entered the competition in 2016 and changed the name to 'Ravenous Rabbit'. We submitted a video of us playing the game with a rabbit, as well as a trailer to introduce the video. We also created a poster just for something extra, and on top of that, we made a booklet showcasing all of the Maths behind the investigation, including statistics, graphs and more. We calculated the probability of rolling the number that makes you lose the game (the out-number), and also worked out the best strategy to use, to win the game.

We were confident that our submission could achieve a High Distinction and we put a lot of time and effort into every part of our project. We received a High Distinction at state level, and also won the Nationals stage for the Year 8 Group category.

We couldn't believe that out of all the Year 8 group entries in Australia, the judges thought ours was the best! We always joked about how cool it would be if we made it to the Nationals and even won too, but we never would have imagined that our crazy dream would actually come true.

On 20 October, we attended a State Awards Ceremony where we received certificates and vouchers. We then went to a National Winners lunch and were presented with more certificates and a trophy for that competition.

We would like to thank Ms Todorov for all of her support and assistance throughout the whole process.  We couldn't have done it without you.
