2016 READING CHALLENGE

Reading Challenge

At the start of this year, Library staff challenged our Year 7 and 8 students to “read, read more, read more widely”. We asked them to try to read 10 or more books by the end of Term 3 and we have been overwhelmed by their enthusiastic response. 155 students met the challenge, of whom 95 also met the Premiers’ Reading Challenge. Overall our students read an amazing 3916 books!

2016 also saw the introduction of Lilydale High School’s Staff Reading Challenge. Staff were encouraged to set a personal reading goal, with posters tracking their progress displayed around the school. A Challenge Book Shelf exhibit gave students insight into the books their teachers were reading. 60 staff participated with a collective goal of 1200. That goal was smashed and, in the end, staff read 1504 books.

On Tuesday 25 October we recognised the achievements of all our readers with an Award Ceremony and a Sweet Celebration to commemorate our school’s love of reading.

The Library team have worked incredibly hard to coordinate, promote and celebrate the Reading Challenge but we are delighted with the amazing results. We hope everyone involved continues to challenge themselves to “read, read more and read more widely.”

We would like to thank the Principal team and Junior School Coordinators for their support. We also wanted to acknowledge the work of our incredible Year 7 English teachers, who have made independent reading a key focus in their classes.

Happy reading and bring on Challenge 2017!
