Year 9/10 Girls Eastern Region Hockey

On Tuesday 11 October, the Year 9/10 girls’ Hockey team travelled to Hawthorn to compete in the Eastern Metropolitan Region Hockey competition. The girls put on a fantastic display of running and skill to win 2 of their 3 games for the day.

Their only loss was by 1 goal to Norwood.

Lily Thompson and Hollie Eckhardt were standouts for the day, with excellent attacking and defensive skills.

Well done girls!

State Athletics Championships

On Monday 17 October, 9 students represented Lilydale High School at the School Sports Victoria, State Athletics Championships at Lakeside stadium.

Lily Thompson (Year 10) put in a valiant effort in the 2000m steeple to finish 4th.  Lily backed up later in the afternoon to finish 5th in the 1500m in what was a very fast race for the windy conditions.

Ruby Dixon (Year 8) competed in the Open 3000m.  Despite only being in Year 8, she  came away with 4th position showing that she will be a strong prospect in this event in the coming years.

Tyler Weeks (Year 10) competed in all three throwing events for the Under 16 boys. His best result was in the Discus; his pet event, where he finished 2nd only 3m behind the throw for first place. Tyler placed 4th in both the Javelin and Shot Put being unlucky to miss out on medals in both events.

James Laven (Year 10) competed in the Open 3000m despite being in the Under 16 age group, placing 5th to once again show that we will be strong in this event in the future. James also competed in the 1500m, placing 9th in the tough windy conditions in a very tactical race.

Georgia Laven (Year 8) took home two state championships on the day.  Winning the 400m and the 800m in the Under 14 age group in very fast times. Georgia ran a tactically perfect 800m race, matching her tactics to her strengths and the conditions to win easily.  In the 400m, Georgia relied on her distance running pedigree to come home strong and once again win easily.

Lily Peacock (Year 9) took home the 800m state title in the Under 15 age group.  Lily also used the conditions to her advantage letting the other girls tire themselves out running into the wind to come over the top and win in the final straight.

Lee Taylor (Year 9) competed in the Under 16 Open race walk. Lee started strong, sitting in the 3rd spot for the first few laps, but ended up fading in the last lap and a half to finish 4th.

Adam Johnson (Year 12) improved on his 3rd place in the 800m last year to finish 2nd in the Open 800m at this year’s championships. Adam got stuck leading his group after the first lap, but managed to let someone else take the lead into the wind and then run over the top of them in the final straight to get the silver medal.
