Mr Nicholas Adamou

Principal

Well into Term 3…

We have now completed the first four weeks of the new term and are well and truly into the second semester of this academic year. The reporting period is now behind us and we are looking forward to an exciting and very busy remainder of term. This term marks the beginning of work force planning for the following school year with student course/subject selections taking place as well as a host of other organisational and curriculum matters to attend to, prior to next year.

Students and parents/carers do need to be clear about the time lines for course selections and to ensure that they see Ms Astles, Ms Makin or Mr Rankcom, Careers Advisers, or Mrs Bridges, Senior Years Sub-School Leader, for more clarification on course advice if required. It is yet another busy term with a myriad of extra-curricular activities; camps, sporting competitions, debating, excursions and writing competitions.

This year’s school production “Haunt” is in its final stages of rehearsals and preparation for the performances is underway.

Haunt is a big rock musical in the tradition of classic gothic literature. It is set in a creepy mansion, the Villa Delarosa, where two vampires reside. The main characters, Miss Lucy and the Viscount are fighting about the next phase of their existence. They have invited seven rich people to attend an auction of the Villa to introduce fresh blood. This musical pays a cheeky respect to Bram Stoker, Boris Karlov and Peter Lorre. There is lots of singing and dancing and pure entertainment for all ages. Haunt contains lots of light moments of humour.

A cast of approximately 50 students performing and as many students helping behind the scenes, as well as, several staff members are in full swing in perfecting a vibrant production, which will satisfy the toughest of theatre production critics.

The school production will take place at GPAC Drama Theatre, 50 Little Malop Street, Geelong on Thursday and Friday, 12 and 13 September, 2019. Matinées will also be offered to our local primary school students. Tickets are available through The Geelong Performing Arts Centre (GPAC) at www.gpac.org.au, Ph. 52251200. Come and see this year’s amazing NGSC young talent in a remarkable show.

As Principal at North Geelong SC, I am very proud to report to the school community that our scholarship program has attracted a large number of high quality candidates, which made it very difficult for the selection panel to make the final decision. The calibre of the students was outstanding. Congratulations to all who participated in the process.

2019 Parent Opinion survey - 22 July to 11 August

We're conducting a survey to find out what you think about our school.

This year the Parent Opinion Survey is being conducted from Monday 22 July to Sunday 11 August.

The Parent Opinion Survey is an opportunity for schools to collect data from parent/guardians in relation to our school community, ensuring that continuous improvement and success is occurring in School Climate, Student Engagement, Teaching and Learning and of course improved student outcomes. The survey is aligned with the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes and the Attitudes to School Survey. NGSC will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. It is a very important step towards making our school one of the best possible educational setting in the wider community.

The 2019 survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd and only takes 15 minutes to complete. The survey can be accessed via desktop computer, laptop, tablet or mobile at any convenient time within the fieldwork period from Monday 22 July to Sunday 11 August 2019.

The Parent Opinion Survey is completed annually by the Department of Education and Training and is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents at every school in Victoria. This year, about 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate.  All responses to the survey are anonymous. Many NGSC parents over the years would most likely have completed these surveys.

This year, your family may be randomly selected to participate in the Parent Opinion Survey.  If you do get selected, I would ask you to take the time to complete the survey as your opinion is important to our school community. It is important to us that you complete the survey as honestly as possible.

Completing the survey: Access, translations and more

The survey will be completed online and it only takes 10 – 15 minutes to complete. It can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period desktops computers, laptops, tablets of smartphones.

There will be no paper survey option, therefore, North Geelong SC is very happy to provide access to computer facilities and staff members to support all parents who are unable to complete the survey online using their own devices or they need a someone to guide them through the survey. The school will notify the selected parents and provide them with the information and all the support needed to complete the on line survey at home or at school.

The online survey is available in English, Arabic, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha), Hindi, Vietnamese, Japanese, Greek, Turkish, Somali and Punjabi.

Additional survey language guides have been made available to schools in Albanian, Bengali, Burmese, Cantonese, Dari, Dinka, Filipino, Greek, Gujarati, Indonesian, Japanese, Karen, Khmer, Korean, Macedonian, Malayalam, Pashto, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Samoan, Serbian, Sinhalese, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil, Telugu, Turkish or Urdu.
