Kindergarten Visits

Mentoring younger children

Some of our year 5 & 6 children are continuing their service at two local kindergartens.

When the students began at Good Start, they were thrown straight into leading activities.

In Week 5, Petar read "The Hungry Caterpillar," and each child decorated a body part with green materials (feathers, tissue paper, pipe cleaners, etc.) and had their hand traced and turned into the caterpillar's feet. At the end of the visit, each caterpillar was joined to another body to make a long caterpillar.

The green tissue paper became the beanstalk and the hand print became the giant's castel.

In week 7, Ian read "Jack and the Beanstalk," and Riley led the children through the activity. We used hands again, but this time their painted hand print was turned into a castle at the top of the beanstalk.

The children from Holy Family have been outstanding visitors to the local kindergartens and should be commended on representing our school so well. Observing their commitment and ability to connect with the children is fabulous.

The two photos below illustrate the positive interactions between the kinder children and students from Holy Family. Our year five student engaged with his young friend after they had completed the activity. He demonstrated a natural interest in everything his young friend wanted to show him.
