MONASH SDS SCHOOL SONG

Our wonderful Monash SDS School Choir Group launched their brand-new school song last week - a result of the Song Room Kaleidoscope Music Program, facilitated by Maribel and her gorgeous guide dog Dindi, that our students have been involved in all this term.

The whole school, in groups, attended an Acknowledgement of Country by our Koori Engagement Support Officer and then enjoyed a live performance of the Monash SDS School Song, sung by our wonderful choir group.

The Kaleidoscope Programme aims to help students recognise their personal qualities and strengths, identify their likes and dislikes, express a range of emotions and to practise the skills required to include others, make friends with different peers, teachers and other adults.

We focused on practising personal and social skills required to work collaboratively with each other and students recognise that being kind, fair and respectful to others can support class health and wellbeing.

During the sessions, many of our primary and secondary students were involved in Instrumental/singing sessions • Writing a song • Drum Circles • Percussion Ensembles • Choir • Creating a special performance to share with peers/ community.

Research shows that music, dance, drama and visual arts have a significant role to play in supporting the wellbeing of young people to feel safe, resilient and connected.

Ultimately, creating OUR SCHOOL SONG, students developed an increased feeling of school pride and belonging.

Our students have had a lot of fun developing this special song, and have worked really hard to get to this performance level, we still have some tweaking and refining to do, but hope we will be able to perform this for our entire school community in the near future.

Verse 1

At Monash, we are happy,

Learning new things.

With our friends, ooh oohooh,

Helping others, at our school.

Chorus

We trust each other,

We do our best,

We feel safe, and strong and heard.

Altogether,

Respecting culture,

We're a proud community.

Verse 2

We are grateful, for our school grounds,

Where we learn and play and stand.

With our friends, ooh oohooh.

On Bunurong People’s Land.

Chorus

We trust each other,

We do our best,

We feel safe, and strong and heard.

Altogether,

Respecting culture,

We're a proud community.
