Chicks update from Isla's House

The chicks have grown so much bigger in the last two weeks. Whilst they’re still tucked away warm and safe at night and will be for another few weeks, during the day they’re enjoying being outside scratching in the dirt and learning to be out in their natural habitat.

Book Week Fun

Wakakirri 2022

After 3 years of waiting, two completed shows and many months of rehearsals, on Tuesday August 23 we finally made it to the stage! What a fantastic night it was!

60 students were part of our story dance “The magic of kindness” which told the tale of Hush who lost all of her colour and happiness after an encounter with a snake. Guided by her magical grandmother and assisted by the guardians of the forest, Hush regained her colour and had her bucket filled culminating in a reconciliation with the snake.

Every participating student showed incredible energy and resilience throughout a very busy two days. Congratulations also have to go to the other 7 performing schools. The atmosphere backstage was nothing but supportive, and it was truly wonderful to see so many students back on stage performing in front of a live audience.

Our performance was very well received and we were presented with the award for “Most creative re-use of materials for sets and props” as well as the following comments from judge Kristin Wantenaar:

''A super fun performance that was so full of life! I loved the opening - the use of the visual sets and props really lit up the stage. The snake was amazing - what a spectacular moment in this performance. The use of props were simple yet really effective - I really liked the river streamer moment. I really liked this story and message and the main performer overcoming her challenge with kindness.  The finale was super fun and so full of life. A wonderful performance by everyone involved”.

Our other results included a nomination for the National Festival Award: Entertainment Story Award, as well as:

• Excellent lead cast

• Excellent ensemble

• Amazing finale

• Amazing moment

• Excellent set movement and staging

Huge thanks to our parent helpers, every teacher who provided assistance throughout performance day, Mrs Bingham for her help with props and Miss Lord and Miss Quarrier for their choreography and assistance in running rehearsals. Biggest congratulations go to all of our amazing students. We can’t wait for next year!

Urban Camp Recaps from SD

   Urban camp !

It was  one very cold morning when I realised I was going to camp! I had to get up really early to go to the Frankston train station. When we were all ready to get on the train we all got on and sat on our sets. The first activty was ACMI. ACMI was cool because there were a lot of moving things.

After we finished ACMI we did so many more things but my favourite thing about day one was bowling! My score was pretty good. My score was 72! After bowling we all had pancakes. My pancakes were so GOOD!

The second day was the MCG. I loved the MCG because I absolutely love the AFL. It was the first time I had been to the MCG for a private tour. The first place we went to was the ground of the MCG.  MCG was very cool because of how much stuff is in there. I was surprised because the club room was so empty.

The third day was the zoo. We walked around for a long time looking at all the animals. It was so cool when I saw the snow leopard. My favourite thing about the zoo was seeing the tigers and the seals. After the zoo we got on the train to go home.

My first city was so fun. I would definitely go again. Would you? My favourite thing was the MCG and my least favourite thing was the immigrantion the museum. I loved walking around the city and being in a cabin with all my friends.

Camp

‘The train will be departing in 23 minutes’. The voice of the speakers echoed throughout our heads along with the chattering and talking between kids. great, the first night back to camp… one hour late. Earlier in the day we had heaps of fun at Hozier lane, admiring the art work and talent. ACMI was overly exciting too.

Ice skating was easily my favourite activity! Just the atmosphere of it was probably the best part, surprisingly I was quite good at it. I only fell once which was when I tripped over someone's skate. The trickiest part was definitely finding everyone's shoe and helmet size.

At Universal pizza, pizza and pasta was being handed out in the blink of an eye! The service was amazing there, and so was the food. We also had the biggest sugar high from all the fizzy drinks. The table with all the boys was the loudest (of course).

It was the longest walk ever to strike bowling, but it was definitely worth it. We were put into our activity groups, I was with Charlotte, Kate, Nevaeh, Maddy, Sienna and Chloe. Our name was Davies Angels as our leader's name was Mrs Davies.

Throughout the whole camp the best part was spending time with friends, finding out our cabins and definitely ice skating. I am so happy that we had a chance to go to camp, it was absolutely amazing! I would love to get the opportunity to go there again.
