PLANTING
YEAR 9 OES PLANTING
The year 9 Outdoor Ed class, took the opportunity of the beautiful weather to help improve the gardens within the school. Planting 450 plants along the eastern fenceline under the Corymbia maculata (spotted gums), where mulch had been spread. Planting this area, will help ensure minimal impact on the spotted gums root systems, as no more mowing around them.
The students quickly figured out which job they would prefer, whether that was drilling holes, digging holes, scraping mulch away to prepare for hole or planting. A few students commented that there were lots of large fat worms, which they all knew it means the soil is in very good health in this area.
They planted Lomandra longifolia (spikey headed matt rush) along the fenceline, Myoporum parvifolium alba (creeping boobialla) around the trunks of the spotted gums and Poa labillardierei (tussock grass).
