Year 5 News

WOW! What a fortnight of entertainment! The Year 5's have had an action packed couple of weeks, enjoying their first Athletics Carnival and a trip to Sandringham College to see 'The Addams Family'.

Inquiry

The Year 5's have completed our Unit of Inquiry, 'How We Express Ourselves'. The students were tasked with creating their own 30-45 second advertisement for a product of their choice. Each group had to come up with a company name, product and incorporate literary and advertising techniques into a script, record and edit their advert.

It was fantastic to see all the learning accumulated into one showpiece with some really creative and imaginative adverts, as well as some great technical skills.

We concluded the week by celebrating and viewing all the adverts as one cohort. Next week, we will begin our next unit of Inquiry, How We Organise Ourselves.

Literacy

In reading, the students have explored a variety of texts ranging from informative texts to news articles and advertising, examining the difference between fact and opinion and signal words. They have recently completed a Learning Task looking at different perspectives on the topical issue of video games.

Feedback will be available for this on Compass shortly.

Numeracy

Continuing on with percentages, the students explored percentages of a number and how to convert percentages to fractions and decimals. We will delve into financial budgeting and measurement next.

Sports Carnival

The students were very excited for this years Athletics Carnival, despite the weather turning on us half way through the day. We are extremely proud of each and every student for competing and having a go in every activity.

Sandringham College Production

The Addams Family A Musical

The Year 5's were very fortunate to be offered an invitation to watch Sandringham College's first production in over 2 years.

The students and staff who attended thoroughly enjoyed watching an amazing performance by the College students, that ranged from Year 7 through to 12, portraying the delightfully grim mis-adventures of the Addams Family.

Please enjoy some testimonials written by the students after they attended  'The Addams Family' production and some of the ads from our Unit of Inquiry.
