House Athletics

On Wednesday 24 August the year 4-6s travelled to the Sandy Athletics track to compete in 8 events for the House carnival. All students had a chance to compete in – 800m, 200m, 100m races as well as Long Jump, Triple Jump, Discus, Shot Put and Vortex throwing.

Although only the top 3 competitors in each event received a ribbon, including every heat of every race, the kids ran, jumped and threw like they were all winners- grinning the whole time and really having FUN! It was lovely to watch everyone having a GO at all the activities.

Although the rain started to come down at midday there was not one person student or staff member who complained but just embraced the freedom of being outside and enjoying the fact that it was our first carnival for 3 years and most of the kids very first athletics experience outside of the school. Well done to all year 4-6 students.

Special thanks to all the staff, office ladies and ES staff who ran a station or led a group around on the day, including tabulating scores, measuring, explaining the event and so much more. Always helps to get a warm hot chocolate or coffee from the van to get you through the day.

Thanks also to all the parents who came along and supported both the students and the event.

The results for the day are calculated on a point system receiving extra points for your House if you gained a ribbon and everyone gets 1 point for participating in an event.

All those students who were the fastest, threw the furthest or jumped the longest in their AGE group will progress to the District Athletics Competition as part of the BNPS Athletics Team. Those students will be told if they make the team sometime in week 8.

The District Athletics Day is on Tuesday 13 September.

Mini Olympic Prep - Year 2

On Friday the 26   August years Prep-2 competed in a Mini Olympics Carnival, held on the oval and various other areas around the school.

The activities the students performed ranged from Olympic style Sports like Long Jump and Hurdles, all the way to games like the limbo and Vortex throwing. We were able to see the kids full repertoire as the kids showcased all of their tricks throughout the day.

Most importantly, the enthusiasm was fantastic from all students and the added benefits of mingling with the students from other year levels led to some new relationships being formed, which was a joy to watch as teachers. Everyone gave each activity a good go which brought a great excitement to the day.

A huge pat on the back goes to our House Captains and extra assistants with the way they ran each group successfully, accounting for all students and demonstrating their leadership skills throughout the whole day. Thank you to all teachers involved as well for being flexible and allowing the day to happen.
