Rest in Peace Queen Elizabeth II, 70 years of service as Britain, Australia, and many other countries in the Commonwealth longest serving Head of State. Her poise and dignity in prosperous and troubled times are an example to all leaders and indeed humanity.
The holidays are close, the weather is warming up and there is a lot going on at O'Connor.
At the time of writing I am at Tamworth Basketball Stadium watching our 16s basketball team in the Diocesan final against our old rivals McCarthy Catholic College Tamworth. It is a very close and exciting game. Thank you John Harris senior for coaching this team. Lara Windred has been coaching our 16s girls team who have been playing well many of whom are having their first experience of basketball.
Basketball score: 12 to 10, O'Connor.
Miss Roache the Leader of Learning Creative Arts and myself had the pleasure of being in the audience for the Yr 10 Drama class Term 3 assessment task production. These students would have made their teacher Ms Plane very proud as the production and standard of acting was unbelievable. I very much look forward to future performances.
Basketball update 18 all.
Last week I wandered into the Yr 10 Food tech class on a learning walk only to be amazed at the intricate decorations that had been piped onto cup cakes. Even more amazing was how good the cupcakes tasted. Thanks to Sophie Carson who generously gave me one of her fine efforts to taste.
Year 8 Mass had a hiccup when the parish was short staffed and could not provide a priest. This did not deter Year 8s and musicians who enjoyed a wonderful Liturgy of the Word led by Miss Roache. The Year 8s entered into this most reverently.
Agriculture students were on hand to assist with shearing and artificial insemination of our stock last week. Mrs Price reports that our students learned a considerable amount and that they were incredibly cooperative and helpful.
We would like to wish the 17 students from O'Connor representing the diocese good times and long distances as they compete at NSWCCC Athletics Championships on Monday.
Keep our Year 11 students in your prayers as they start their exams today. These students will start their HSC year next term.
Year 9 students are in the process of choosing electives for 2023. One exciting prospect is that they have the opportunity to choose a VET subject that can count toward their senior units the following year. The elective forms are out on Compass. Students have been walked through this process and given information on the subject offerings. Please contact the College if you need any more information help.
Wonderful to see the Year 12 students actively leading RUOK Day. It was a fun day on Thursday that raised awareness for mental illness and the part we can all play to help those suffering.
Oh, bad news we went down 26 to 22, yet all basketballers that attended had a great day and made new friends.
