From the Principal

Dear Families,

It has been lovely to be back to some sense of normal with so many learning activities for students at school as we come to the end of Term Three. We have also enjoyed welcoming families and the community into many events such as Father's Day and Athletic events.

These last two weeks have been challenging with staff and student illnesses. We have had a number of staff and students away with a range of illnesses. We hope that as the weather gets warmer there will be less illnesses for the. community. We are still getting multiple cases of COVID reported each day. Please ensure you monitor your child for symptoms.

It is recommended that rapid antigen tests are used by students and staff when symptomatic.

From Friday September 9, the isolation period for asymptomatic individuals who test positive will be reduced to five days - two days less than the previous seven-day isolation period. Students must be free from symptoms before returning to school.

Household contacts are required to test negative using a rapid antigen test if they are attending or working at a school onsite.

If staff or students receive a positive test result at any time, they must report this through the Department of Health system

The Victorian Government is providing further deliveries of rapid antigen tests in Term 4. If you need some more RATS please don't hesitate to contact the office and we can send some home.

NAPLAN

Congratulations to all of our students who participated in NAPLAN. Students individual results have been sent home this week. If you have any questions about your child's results, please don't hesitate to contact your child's classroom teacher.

There are some huge celebrations in our whole school data. Our students are achieving well in many of the areas measured in NAPLAN.

Mobile Phone Policy

SHNPS understands that students may bring a personal mobile phone to school, particularly if they are travelling independently to and from school.

At SHNPS:

-Students who choose to bring mobile phones to school must have them switched off and securely stored during school hours

-Exceptions to this policy may be applied if certain conditions are met (see below for further information)

-When emergencies occur, parents or carers should reach their child by calling the school’s office.

In accordance with the Department’s Mobile Phones — Student Use Policy issued by the Minister for Education, personal mobile phones must not be used during school hours, including lunchtime and recess, unless an exception has been granted.

Where a student has been granted an exception, the student must use their mobile phone for the purpose for which the exception was granted, and in a safe, ethical and responsible manner.

Mobile phones owned by students are considered valuable items and are brought to school at the owner’s (student’s or parent/carer’s) risk.

Students are encouraged not to bring a mobile phone to school unless there is a compelling reason to do so.

Mobile phones must be handed into the office each day where they will be placed in secure storage.

R U OK Day

Yesterday we acknowledged R U OK day. Thank you to all the staff who organised activities for students and to our HOL team who cooked a BBQ lunch for students.

R U OK day is a national day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to  ask, ‘are you OK?’ and start a meaningful conversation whenever they spot the signs that someone they care about might be struggling with life.

Athletics

Good luck to the students who have been selected to represent SHNPS at the Division Athletics carnival on Monday at Ken Harrison Reserve. I know they will do our school very proud.
