School of Possibilities
Over the last two weeks of the term, Year 10 students have participated in a week's work experience across various industries, exploring possible career pathways. Student Chiara Villani gives us an insight into what it was like to participate in work experience at an accounting firm.
Last week I took the opportunity to engage in a week of work experience at Metzke + Allen in Shepparton. I chose to do work experience at an accounting firm as I am interested in pursuing a career in business and finance after Year 12.
During the week I learnt about superannuation, capital gains, trust funds, tax, credits and debits as well as the extensive accounting software they use. I spent my time at the office editing spreadsheets, observing, scanning documents and going to the bank and post office. I found it difficult sometimes to concentrate when sitting at a desk staring at two screens for long periods of time doing repetitive work.
Overall, I really enjoyed the week gaining experience and learning from the team at Metzke + Allen. It was a great insight into what the working world is really like.

The students have also been building and analysing circuits during their Physics class.
