On Friday the 19th August, a team of 33 athletes and 4 VCAL students set off to Newport Athletics Track for the first Altona District Primary Athletics Carnival since 2019. For many, this was their first interschool competition, so nerves were high! Students were briefed on their events and were responsible in getting themselves to their events on time. A huge commendation has to go to each student in how they conducted themselves maturely and represented the College in a positive way. A big thank you also needs to go to Tash Allan, Jaiden Walls, Monica Gavazovska and Desiree Giannakopoulos from VCAL who volunteered their time to assist Shaun and Miss C-J with the running of the track events, and supporting the primary students throughout the day.
Congratulations to the following students who received ribbons in their respective events:
- 12/13 girls 4 x 100m relay 1st: Tanya, Mariah, Shiloh and Ava
- 11 boys 4 x 100m relay 1st: Edward, Rory, Sam and Oscar
- 9/10 girls 4 x 100m relay 2nd: Ella, Thalia, Talia and Charli
- 11 girls 4 x 100m relay 3rd: Amani, Audrey, Emma and Summer
- Shiloh Karklins: Long jump 3rd
- Phryne-Rose Rountree: Discus 3rd
- Edward McSweeny: 800m 1st, 100m 2nd, 200m 3rd
- Thalia Nithianandarajah: Long jump 2nd, triple jump 3rd
- Talia Mirzayeva: Shotput 2nd, discus 2nd
- David Lazar: Long jump 3rd
Students who finished 1st in the relay or 1st and 2nd in all other events are invited to represent the Altona District in the Hobson’s Bay Division Track and Field Championships at Werribee VU Athletics Track on Tuesday 6th September. More details to follow.

Lunchtime Basketball House Competition
The challenge was on at lunchtime when our house teams, both staff and students, faced each other in a round of basketball.
