Principal's Report

They say better late than never, our newsletter is the victim in this instance and I sincerely apologise for the delay. As many of you have already noticed, last week was jam packed with events, topped off by the completion and relocation of admin back to its original, but newly refurbished home. As a result, our admin and principal team had no desks for the later part of the week while we completed the move. We are all very excited about our new space, with more to follow. Please read this fortnights review below:

Admin and Security

Having moved into our new admin, many families will notice a change to the traffic flow of students, staff and visitors. Our main gate will continue to be opened on Grieve Parade for student and parent access between 8.30 and 9.00am. The gate will however close at 9.00am to ensure late arrivals follow the correct sign in process. This does however leave parents locked in if they have not yet departed. Parents can exit via reception, however we kindly ask that this be avoided wherever possible to minimise traffic at this busy time of morning. Likewise, our new pedestrian gate will start construction this week and should be operational by the commencement of term 4. We are also installing a new concrete path to align with the previously endorsed crossing relocation. Hopefully, these new systems will ensure our safe, accessible, and secure in equal measure, as appropriate to the time of day. We will also work on signage to improve accessibility and minimise confusion for visitors over the coming months.

Primary swimming

What a fortnight. With swimming all wrapped up, our students are settling back into the normal weekly routine. We appreciated the kind words of support and feedback over the past few weeks, along with all of the hard work staff put in to manage the logistics of the program.

Fathers Day

Our fathers day stall was a huge success, along with the breakfast and parade which helped bring our community together. I spoke to lots of chuffed dads who enjoyed the morning and networked with other parents over a bacon and egg roll. Thanks to the Community Bank Altona (Bendigo Bank) and Rotary who supported us with the BBQ. I hope Fathers Day was a joyous occasion for all who celebrated it.

Capital Works

With admin completed, our works progress into the 5-6 area to develop new general purpose learning spaces for the primary school, along with a primary STEAM space. With capacity to support art, science, technology, inquiry and any number of other innovative projects, we are hopeful that the space will be completed before the close of the school year and will keep you posted. Either way, we will start the new year with some exciting new spaces available and even more on the way. In addition, landscaping works will take place around the P block portables (primary and year 7) in November to improve play space and aesthetics. We are always busy improving our facilities and eagerly anticipate their completion!

7-11 Interviews

Secondary families should note that parent interviews for year 7-11 will take place on Thursday 6th October (week 1 of term 4). Bookings will open next week, with further information available to guide the process.

End of term

As always, we will close the school term early on the final day. A 2.15pm dismissal has been scheduled and will be confirmed later this week once arrangements with bus providers and crossing supervisors is confirmed. Stay posted for the Compass reminder!
