Book Week 2023

Book Week 2023, is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate books and reading in our lives.  The Children’s Council of Australia has been celebrating Book Week since 1945, with the first awards in 1946. The annual CBCA Book of the Year Awards aims to:

  • promote quality literature for young Australians;
  • support and encourage a wide range of Australian writers and illustrators of children’s books and;
  • celebrate contributions to Australian children’s literature.

At Lockleys North Primary School, we value books and reading and know that the volume and variety of texts our children read, greatly impact their levels of reading comprehension.  Reading comprehension is directly linked to academic success and thus increasing our student's ability to comprehend text is our main goal.

So how can we go about accessing many varied, engaging texts for our children to enjoy at home?  Book Week is a great time to visit a local bookshop for your child to choose a new book from the nominated list of books.

Book Week 2023, will be celebrated during Week 5.  On Monday,  21st August beginning at 9:00 am, the Book Week Parade will be held in the Gym.

Please note that this is a dress-up parade based on a book of choice.  Be creative and put together a costume with your child from found items,  it does not need to be a commercial costume.

We are welcoming parents back into the Gym for the parade for the first time since 2019. Hooray! We will have two areas for parents to stand at the front and back of the Gym. Entry for parents will be through the foyer and the door near Torrens.

On Thursday, 24th August from 1:45- 3:00 pm, Read, Grow, Inspire Buddy Learning will take place across the school.  Students will have the opportunity to connect with their buddy class and participate in activities connected with Book Week and the curriculum.

We are looking forward to celebrating a successful Book Week.  If you have any questions regarding the Book Week 2023 plans please contact the Front Office.
