Sacred Heart Day Celebrations – by Harrison Hein School Captain 2023

Term 2 was packed with sports, camps, and exams, so what better way to tie up the first semester with our much-loved Sacred Heart Day. The day kicked off with a mass, which we were joined by some very special guests. Thank you to all the students who were involved in the service and Mr Franc for organising it all, a big thankyou to Father Paddy, Father Ted and Bishop Paul Bird who travelled down from Ballarat to join us.

The Mass was followed by a quick break then straight into our annual quiz, we changed the format up a bit this year opting for more active and engaging activities the student leadership team did a great job of organising the new format, it was great to see everyone happy and enjoying time together.

We all then broke off into our homeroom shared lunches, after consuming way too much sugar the whole school was buzzing for what is undoubtably the highlight of the day, our very own M factor. We had terrific performances across all year levels, a great display of talent ranging from piano, singing and guitar to dancing and even a magic act! I congratulate all the contestants on their efforts as daunting as it is standing in front of all those people you crushed it.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the year 12 dances, the age-old battle continued with the girls putting up a valiant effort with some very impressive choreography and timing but unfortunately with some very interesting takes on music videos and outfits that will hopefully never surface again the boys took the win. Thank you to all those involved in making it such a great day.

Staff Retreat

The Monivae staff participated in their annual staff retreat on Friday the 14th of July – held at HIRL Hamilton.

Mr Matthew Crane ran the first session titled “Encountering the Sacred” which was well received from the staff.

Staff then had an opportunity to encounter their own sacred places and spaces by selecting one of a group of options.

The staff retreat is an important part of staff formation, a requirement of all staff at Monivae College.

At the end of the retreat, the staff celebrated a mass with Father Ted. It was also Ted’s 90th birthday – so we celebrated that as well.

Father Ted gives much to the Monivae community, so it was good to give him a little surprise celebration in return.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be everywhere loved.
