Book Week Celebrations

Dress Up Day

The The Foundation teachers were nowhere to be found on Wednesday, instead Elsa and Olaf showed up to teach the Foundation students of Woodend PS! And to their surprise, no students turned up. Instead we had a cast of fictional characters (as well as some real life figures) filling the classrooms!

Well done to everyone for putting thought and effort into their Book Week costumes. You all looked fabulous! See some of the wonderful characters below!

Literacy Open Morning

Yesterday as a part of Woodend Primary’s Book Week celebrations we held an Open Morning in our classrooms and we were so happy to see lots of our students’ special people come and spend the morning learning and having fun with us!

We read one of the shortlisted picture storybooks to everyone - it was ‘Bev and Kev’ by Katrina Germein and Mandy Foot. It had lots of great synonyms for ‘tall’ and ‘small’ and we had previously learnt about similes during our poetry unit,  so we used these to help us write a simile about each of the main characters in the story. See some of our fantastic similes below!

Book Week Numeracy

To keep the ‘Bev and Kev’ theme going, the Foundation students were given pictures of the different animals in the story and asked to put them in order - from biggest to smallest. We even had a go at putting ourselves in height order too!

Book Week Craft

Finally to finish the day, the Foundation students had a go at making their very own bird - just like Kev in the story. We used coloured paper, textas, feathers and googly eyes for our creations.
