Year 1 Unit

Book Week!

Book Week dress up day is always a lot of fun! It’s such a joy to see what all the students and teachers choose to dress up as. Harry Potter is definitely still a favourite!

Yesterday, the Year Ones read the book ‘Where the Lyrebird Lives’ written by Vikki Conley and Max Hamilton. This book was nominated in the Early Childhood Book of the Year category by The Children’s Book Council of Australia. It won! Students’ spent the morning reading and writing about lyrebirds. They even got to create a lyrebird of their own.

Did you know that lyrebirds are Australian birds that are known for their ability to mimic all sorts of sounds? They have been known to sound like kookaburras, car alarms and even chainsaws!

It was wonderful to see parents, both at the parade and in the classroom. We enjoyed the opportunity to share the literacy learning that happens at W.P.S.
