Middle Unit -2/3

BOOK WEEK

This week we have celebrated Book Week! It was incredible to see so many creative Book Day costumes, from Harry Potter to Dog Man and everything in between. Our budding authors have done a wonderful job over the past 7 weeks so it was such a great opportunity to share this with so many families and even have a go at writing a poem together!

LITERACY

The Middle Unit are finishing up on our poetry unit this week by examining and creating poems of our own choice including diamante, kennings, cinquain and rhyming couplets. We have used a range of wonderful texts to collect a range of verbs, nouns and adjectives. In Writing, everyone has chosen specific and strong word choice to give their poems meaning and pizzazz! How lucky we were to read these to you!

MATHS

This week in Maths the Middle Unit have been learning about division strategies through playing games, problem solving, think boards and money. They are making the connection between the strategies they learnt in multiplication to apply to division problems.

INQUIRY

In Inquiry, the Middle Unit have been exploring the First Peoples connection to the land through song and dance, the seasons and Dreaming stories. We further developed our research skills to learn about the different actions and instruments that are used in a dance ceremony and respectfully created our own dances and performed them to the class. We researched safely online to find out about the different Kulin Calendar seasons and presented our learning through creating our own calendar to compare. We’ve also been reading a lot of the Dreaming stories and have created some terrific art pieces to showcase the characters in the stories.
