Year 9 Careers Week

The Year 9 students participated in a wide range of Careers related experiences during the last week of Term 2.

Monday- students were given an introduction to the week and were involved in building resumes, including how to tailor a resume and cover letter for each job application.

Tuesday- students participated in Taster Days at the HDSC, Monivae and South West Tafe to help inform their choices for Year 10 VET course selection.

Wednesday- students visited HIRL to learn about conservation and take a tour of the Indigenous gardens and the Bandicoot reserve. They then jumped on buses and visited local industries around Hamilton including Brandt, Elders & Walkers Engineering.

Thursday- students travelled to Portland to engage in industry tours of Portland Aluminium, Keppel Prince & the Port of Portland, and enjoyed a nice hot fish and chip lunch before returning to school at the end of the day.

Friday- probably the best event of the week saw 26 local Hamilton businesses represented at a Speed Networking event. Students had 4 minutes with each business representative to ask about their career, how they came to choose that career and what pathways enabled them to be employed in that industry. We had a wide range of representation, from solicitors, to trades people, emergency services to agriculture, and everything in between.

Year 10 Work Experience

The Year 10 students were out on work experience for the last two weeks of Term 2. The majority of students had different work placements for each week, mostly around the Hamilton region, but some as far as Wodonga!

The two weeks were very successful in helping our students realise the career paths they were interested in, as well as those they were no longer interested in, after experience the work force. We thank all the employers for hosting our students and look forward to working with them in future years.
