CURRICULUM FOCUS

In Reading this week, we are continuing to learn to summarise non-fiction texts.

VOCABULARY

Summarise: An overview of a text, only telling the audience the important parts.

IVBT:

I: Identify Text

V: Verb

T: Topic

B: Big Idea (these are linked to the subheadings and facts, example: animals - description, diet, habitat)

Non Fiction: A text providing true/factual information.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Using a non fiction text, your child needs to write a summary following IVBT explaining what the text is about.

Example: Elephants Text: In the information text, Elephants, the author informs the reader on a range of facts about Elephants. Elephants are the largest land mammal. They live in different areas depending on the species of elephant, ranging from forests, grasslands, wetlands, and savannas. Elephants eat many things including fruits, roots, grasses and leaves.
