Late Arrivals to School
We have been advised by Catholic Schools Broken Bay about guidelines involving before school supervision and late arrivals of students.
Holy Family provides before school supervision on our playground from 8:15am. We also have a teacher rostered from this time at the drop off drive through area. Supervision on the playground ends when class teachers take on their own class supervision at 8:40am.
Beginning next Monday 14th August, our school gates will be locked at 8:45am. Any child who arrives after this time will be considered as a late arrival to school.
In order to comply with CSBB guidelines Holy Family will be asking parents to do the following if their child is late to school -
- safely park their car and walk their child to the School Gate located in Highfields Rd
- use the intercom system to alert the school office to open the gate
- walk their child to the office where they will sign them in as a late arrival
Students will then walk themselves to the classroom.
We understand that sometimes it is unavoidable for your child to be late to school and thank you for your understanding and support in this process.

Stage Two Coding Club
Beginning next week, selected Stage Two students will be invited to attend a lunch time group for coding. Mrs Nunn will be taking this group, using all of her STEAM expertise and resources. Students will be informed next week about the next steps in applying for this group.
Learning English as a Second Language
Last week I went to fantastic professional learning opportunity provided by the Broken Bay Diocese. It was led by Flavia Arapi Nunez, leader of EALD (English as a Second Language or Dialect).
At Holy Family we value and celebrate the diversity of our community. Through our recent CSBB Language Survey we discovered 14 different languages spoken by our parents and students. 50% of our students come from a language background other than English (LBOTE).
The Catholic Diocese have employed a teacher to assist some of our students achieve their English language learning goals. Margaret Brewster is an experienced teacher who has joined our community, sharing great ideas and enthusiasm.
Parents can assist their child learning English in some of the following ways.
-continue to speak, write and read in the child's first language e.g., Mandarin as this encourages bilingualism - what a gift!
-watching English television e.g., ABC Kids or ABC Me is a great way for students to learn some English with images that will help understanding.
-encourage all new English words to be accompanied by a picture and first language word
Have a lovely weekend.
