Junior Class - Mrs Creek

This week was the last time for a Wednesday rest day for the Foundation students.  We look forward to them coming to school every day.  I know the rest day has been a great transition as in early February some students were really tired by the afternoon sessions with Miss Williams.  Our Literacy foci are continuing for sounds, words and sentences.  Mathematics topics include Foundation students matching numerals to pictures and number names as well as sorting groups.  The Year 1 students have been comparing, writing, and analysing teen numbers, as well as recognising quantities by sight.  I enjoy watching the interactions of the students, as this continues to inform my teaching practice.

Middle Class - Miss Williams

The Middles continued to have lots of fun and excitement this week with swimming on Monday and Tuesday and hockey on Wednesday.  I love the way that everyone had a go at our swimming carnival on Tuesday and helped the best team (only because it is my team) Black, come away with the win!  In reading we have been reading the book Jeremy and looking at the setting and characters in the story and how these affect their feelings.  We were even lucky enough to have Olive and Mrs Pilgrim find a bird's nest on Monday morning.  We have been able to relate the nest to our book as Jeremy falls out of a nest as a baby kookaburra.  The nest is still in our classroom on display.  In writing we have been finishing off our narrative stories and making them the best we can.  In maths we finished off module 1 of Stepping Stones and have started to gather information and prepare to begin module 2.  We have been working very hard and even find time to have fun in between all the work.  Well done Middles!

Senior Class - Miss Walker

What a fun filled week we’ve had!  On Tuesday we capped off swimming lessons with our school carnival and it was great to have everyone getting into the spirit with team colours and cheering.  Wednesday saw the kids practise some neat hockey skills which presented a fantastic opportunity to have a go and try something new.  This week, our class focus text has been on World Day of Prayer 2021 as we have been learning about navigating texts to find key information.  World Day of Prayer incorporates lots of faith traditions coming together for a universal day of prayer on the first Friday of March every year where there is a different country and theme.  This year's theme is “Build on a Strong Foundation” and the writer country is Vanuatu.  There is a worship service at St Patrick’s Catholic Church this Friday night at 7pm if anyone wishes to attend.  In Maths we had some fun going on a ‘gallery walk’ to find cards throughout the room to answer multiplication questions and will begin focusing on addition shortly.  I hope everyone enjoys a well deserved break next Monday.

Little Joey

This week we continue to acknowledge the significant role of the "Brown Joeys" in the establishment of St Patrick's School, and recognised Ma Thay Thay and Stella with Little Joey awards.  Our Little Joeys receive a certificate, sticker and a voucher/goods donated by a local business.  This week's vouchers were donated by Wimmera Bakery and Cambrelle's.  We are very grateful for the contributions from our local businesses.

Reading Awards

The following students were recognised this week for their reading achievements:
