SWIMMING CARNIVAL

A huge thank you to all those parents and teachers for your assistance at our swimming carnival last Friday. The day would not have run so smoothly without you volunteering your time so generously. COVID restrictions made it another carnival with a difference. Fingers crossed that next year we will back on deck for our normal carnival. A video and photographs from the day will be coming soon!

WINTER TRIALS

This year the Winter Trials will be held in Inverell on Friday March 12th. This will be for mostly children in Year 6 with maybe some Year 5 children if there are slots available. The day is to try out for selection in the Armidale Diocesan teams for Netball, Rugby League (Opens and 11 year old) Hockey and Soccer. Notes were handed out yesterday to players who have shown an interest in trying out for these sports.

SPORTING SCHOOLS

Each term the school applies for sporting grants from the Australian Government. The money is then put towards improving children's skill levels in a particular sport and increasing their participation in sport as well as purchasing equipment for the children to play this sport at school. It is helping them to gain a healthier lifestyle and giving them the tools to hopefully maintain this throughout their lives. It is also giving them a taster for different sports in the hope that some may take up the sport outside of school.

This term we were lucky enough to gain a grant for basketball. Children in Years 2, 4 and 6 will be given the opportunity to participate in basketball clinics lead by coaches from Tamworth Basketball Association over the next five weeks. Keep an eye out for photos of this.

PARENTS RESPONSIBILITIES

Please make sure that if your child is representing St Nicholas School at a sporting event outside of school hours that you drop off and collect your children at the required times. It has been brought to my attention that some children are being dropped off early and collected late from training and matches which means that the coaches are having to remain behind or children are being left unsupervised. Coaches have already given up their valuable time to take on this responsibility and it is not fair to them to have to wait for late pick ups.

BASKETBALL

Basketball starts TONIGHT Thursday 25th February. The first game will be a trial game.

TOUCH FOOTBALL

Welcome to a new year of touch football.

Teams have been communicated and we enjoyed our first game on Monday afternoon. It was wonderful to see so many excited, red, faces running around.

All players were given a note on Monday requiring them to create a MySideline account before registering. If a player is involved with Rugby league or league tag they would already have an account for that.
