Parents & Friends Community News

Dear Parents & Friends,

Update re. Le Mums’ Lunch

Thank you for the overwhelming support for the lunch on Friday 26th of March: today we sold out of tickets! Thank you again to Marshall White and also Quest Apartments in Brighton for being our major sponsors. Stay tuned for details of the raffle prizes and silent auction items which are shaping up to be the best ever - and available to everyone in our community - not just lunch attendees. Please join our ‘Brighton Primary Parents’ Hub’ Facebook Group for regular updates.

This is my final newsletter as president of the PFC.

I began this ‘journey’ with the aim of fixing the junior toilets and improving the bike shed, and I’m completing it, rewarded with wonderful memories from Winterfest, the 2019 Parents’ Lunch, carnivals, sausage sizzles, raffles, Brighton Live, hot cross buns and mince tart drives, the cookbook, the lapathon, and so much more.

I want to thank all of the current PFC committee members - Jan Browne, Emma Oliver, Michelle Gibson, Meredith Overbury, Katie Bull, Krista De Luca, Vesna Zuban - and past committee members (Caroline Webber, Tara Strong...) and countless energetic volunteers, who have been incredibly supportive over the past 2 1/2 years. You are the people who brought these activities to life. Thank you!

I’d also like to thank our School leaders and support staff, including Joel, Diane, Karen and Marie, who assist with the organisation of PFC activities; and of course, the school council and principal Steve for green-lighting our many and varied events.

Most of all, I want to thank the parents and friends who have attended and sponsored events, bought raffle tickets, sausages, etc. and supported the PFC activities. Your generosity has meant we can put new books and furniture into our classrooms, and create a plan to improve the actual bricks-and-mortar of our school - in the form of a master plan for our facilities. Right now, it is really important that we, as a community, band together and support the school’s efforts to create the best plan possible for our school, and then seek government funding for the major works. I urge you to attend next week’s information session on Wednesday night so you can hear about the exciting ideas already in the mix - and add your own. You can register to attend here on Compasstix .

Welcome Jan Browne and Emma Oliver

Jan and Emma will be taking over my role, at the March School Council meeting, as co-leads of the PFC. Jan has been deputy PFC president of the PFC and Emma has helped out on the PFC committee so they are both perfect for the role. BPS is very fortunate to have Jan and Emma taking the helm and I thank them for their support during my tenure, and wish them all the best during theirs.

New parents & friends night

I will finish my term with running the Mums’ lunch, and the ‘new families’ events - starting with the first one on 11/3, at 7:30PM at the Half Moon Hotel, for parents and friends who are new to BPS. There are many new families, in every year level, at BPS this year. We are fortunate to live in a very open and welcoming community so it makes sense to run an event where this spirit of hospitality can be celebrated. Please join me - whether you’re ‘old’ or new to BPS, in extending a hand of friendship to these families.
