Parking and road behaviour in Odessa Avenue

Both teachers and parents have again raised concerns about the poor traffic behaviour at the front of the school. Double parking, ignoring time limits and disabled signage and, in particular, illegal U-turns are making pick up and drop off times dangerous and chaotic.Brimbank Council are aware of the situation and will begin regular blitzes by parking officers. Be aware that the fine for double parking is $97 and the fine for parking in no stopping or disabled zones is $167. They are also planning a coordinated operation with the police in the next couple of weeks to target illegal u-turns. This will result in significant fines, as well as demerit points.Think about some of the following strategies to improve the situation:

  • asking your children to walk a few hundred metres down the road to meet you
  • getting students to wait for 10 minutes until the traffic clears
  • planning a route that does not require u-turns, even if this takes you a few extra minutes

We need to work together as a school community to improve this situation and ensure the safety of all of the students of KDC. I hope I can count on everyone's support,Linda Maxwell
