Child Protection

Child Protection

On Monday the 1st of March, Jacqui and Karen  took the day to complete SA Child Protection Curriculum training called Keeping Safe.  Independent schools and early learning centres have this training available to educators in order to teach the content appropriate for each age group.

At Curiosity we take the wellbeing and care of children seriously and therefore believe it is important to for children to know their rights around child protection.  We all have the right to be safe and know how to help ourselves by talking to people we trust.

The four focus areas cover:

  1. The right to be safe; feelings, safe and unsafe feelings, warning signs and emergencies.
  2. Relationships; needs and wants, exploring identity and relationships, trust and developing networks.
  3. Recognising and reporting abuse; privacy and the whole body, safe and unsafe touching, safe and unsafe secrets and online safety.
  4. Protective strategies; problem solving, assertiveness, resilience, persistence and building trusting networks.

As we work through the curriculum with our children we will ensure that we notify you of the topics that we are covering so that you can support conversations at home.

The use of Kimochi's around identifying feelings and warning signs of feeling unsafe has been a great way to implement Focus Area One.  Having the words to describe how you are feeling and to know how that feels within our body is an important strategy for children to learn.  We will be focussing on area 1 for the rest of this term with the children.

Please feel free to contact Jacqui or Karen W if you have any further questions as we know that this can be a sensitive topic to approach.
