P & F Brainstorming Session

Option to have your child's name embroidered on hats

There is an opportunity for parents to have their child's name embroidered on their school hat. There is a charge for this and payments can be made via Qkr! At the end of this term, we will export the list of students and give it to the teachers who will collect their hats at home time on the last day of Term 1. These will then be handed back to students on the first day of Term 2. If you decide to take up this offer, please ensure your child's name is clearly marked inside their hat.

Parent iPad Session

Thank you to those parents who attend the iPad sessions last week. There is an expectation that all parents have attended this session so that your child can begin to use their iPad at school. As some parents did not attend these meetings, we have put together a video for you to watch. Once you have watched this video, please notify the school so that your child can use their iPad at school.

Parent-Teacher Interviews

Tuesday 16 March and Wednesday 17 March from 3.30-7.00 pm. Although these are not compulsory, we encourage you to attend. Please make your booking via School Interviews using the code hcdmk.

QR Code Update

Along with all schools in SA, Golden Grove Lutheran Primary School is using a QR code specific to our site.

All adults, including staff and parents, are expected to check-in using the QR code when entering classrooms or buildings on site. It is not necessary for parents and staff to check-in at the school gate as they enter school grounds.

We will also continue to provide a paper recording sheet at our Administration Office for people without smartphones.

Please note the COVID SAfe Check-in is purely for SA Health contact tracing purposes and does not replace our normal visitor sign-in process. All guests should continue to sign in at the front office/reception on arrival.

Save the Date

More information will follow.

Car Park

A reminder that our car park is one way. All cars should enter from our Richardson Road entrance only. The Sunnybrook Drive end of the car park is for exit only.

  • The first 50 metres of on-street parking from our entrance heading south-west on Richardson Road is a 'kiss and drop' lane, flowing into the 'kiss and drop' lane on the left-hand side of our school car park.
  • Cars entering the car park to park can use the right-hand lane to enter the car park, but cannot turn right into the 'kiss and drop' lane on the left.
  • The only way of entering the 'kiss and drop' lane is from the south-west adjacent to our oval/playground.

A 10kph limit applies to all traffic within the school grounds. This includes the whole car park, including the Sunnybrook Drive side outside the Golden Grove Lutheran Church and near the GGOSH.

The 'kiss and drop' system is most effective when families observe the following:

  • Students are dismissed at 3.07 pm.
  • If a student is not waiting to be collected, parents will need to drive out and come around again. By coming a little later, the process will speed up, because students are more likely to be ready and waiting.
  • Please not queue in the 'kiss and drop' line before 3.07 pm; you may be early, but your child may not. You will be asked to move on so that traffic keeps flowing.

There will be many occasions when you may wish to spend some time at the school, especially now that COVID restrictions are lessening somewhat, and you are most welcome to park your vehicle and pick up your child from the classroom. Please note that no students will be allowed to leave the school to go to a car unless accompanied by an adult: the safety of our students is always of the highest priority.

Thank you to Bunnings, Modbury

A huge thank you to Bunnings Modbury for their generous support of our school with the donation of a new six-burner BBQ as part of our community support program. Our P & F have done excellent work in this space to organise a great BBQ for our Foundation families last Friday night and in liaising with Bunnings to bring about this great new asset to our school.

Music and Absenteeism

Just a reminder that if your child learns music at school and is absent, you are required to let the music teacher know. This way the teacher can reschedule your child's lesson. If the music teacher is not advised of your child's absenteeism, you will be charged.

Music Lessons

We have a music teacher who is here on Thursday's for a lesson. He also teaches the trumpet and guitar. If you are interested in lessons for your child, please let the front office know and they will put you in contact with the teacher.

Youth Group

The next Junior Youth event is Wheels Night on 19 March.

Please contact Joel Schiller on 0411 084 071 if you would like to attend.

Fruit Fly

The Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) has updated its information about fruit fly restrictions in South Australia.  This might change the types of fruit and vegetables your child can bring to school.

New colour-coded maps for Metropolitan Adelaide and Riverland residents show the red outbreak areas, yellow suspension areas, and green areas not affected by fruit fly. Our school is located in the yellow suspension area.

If you live in the red outbreak area:

Your child must not bring any fresh fruit or vegetables on this list to school, preschool or child care. This applies even if it has been cut up.

Instead, PIRSA has provided a list of alternative fresh fruit and vegetable options suitable for lunch and breaks.

If you live in the yellow suspension area

Your child can bring any type of fresh fruit or vegetable to school, preschool or child care.

If you live in the green not impacted area

Your child can bring any type of fresh fruit or vegetable to school, preschool or child care.

All fruit or vegetables on this list must be eaten and disposed of at our school, preschool or children’s centre. These items cannot return home at the end of the day and will be disposed of safely at our school/preschool/child care centre’s grounds.

Grated, dried, frozen, cooked or pureed fruit and vegetables of any kind are acceptable in any area.

Disposal of Fruit

Classroom teachers will assist children to dispose of fruit during the school day.   We encourage you to ask your child if uneaten fruit has been discarded before you leave the school site.

We appreciate your support as we help protect South Australia from fruit fly.

2021 and 2022 Foundation Enrolments

During this term and early next term, I will be conducting enrolment interviews for new families who have applied to enrol for Foundation, either in our mid-year intake this year or for the 2022 school year. We provide priority entry to siblings if we have an application for them in our files. If you are a current Golden Grove family and have not yet completed an enrolment form for your younger child, or would like to check if you have returned your enrolment form please ask at the school office or check with Tanya Wilson wilson.tanya@goldengrove.sa.edu.au as soon as possible. We have strong interest from a number of new families for both intakes and have begun holding interviews already.

Volunteer Training

Volunteer Training is required for parents and carers who would like to be involved in specific school activities like camps, excursions, learning assistance, coaching sporting teams, and any other similar type of activity which involves supervision of students.

Please refer to our volunteer's page on the school website about the process of obtaining a working with children check and valuing safe communities training as part of this process.
