The boys and girls both kicked off the day with a win, where the boys smashed Baden Powell College and the girls easily got over the line against Alamanda College. The girls then secured another win against Cragieburn and the boys again showing their talent and Defeating Alamanda College easily. The Boys had to overcome the two academy schools which they did in style defeating Manor Lakes 16-0 and The Grange 16-12, this showed the depth and talent in the boys side. The girls drew to The Grange 20-20 and then lost to Hume Central 4 – 8 . This still was enough to get them into the finals however they were riddled with injuries and left with no bench for the finals.
The boys were hot favourites going into the finals against Cragieburn. With a few errors by the Melton boys they trailed at halftime 8 – 4. They came out firing in the second halves, however, Cragieburn scored the first try to make the score 12 – 4. The boys lifted and levelled out the score 12 all but in the dying stages Cragieburn was able push through to score the last try and defeating the boys 16 – 12.
The girls came into the final tired, battered and bruised and going up against Hume Central who they had already lost to but this did not stop them. The girls worked as a team and pushed through their pain to win narrowly to take home the title and guaranteeing them a spot in state finals.
