Philosophy Club

Philosophers’ club is a safe place where everyone’s thoughts are heard, and we respect and build on each other’s ideas and it has been on fire this term.

‘Technology – blessing or curse’ was our discussion on Monday, 15 March, with most of our philosophers thinking… ‘curse’! It’s too much of a crutch, that we’re too dependent on. At the same time, we discussed the related question of whether this was the greatest time in history to be alive. Again, our discussion took us to some surprising ideas: whilst technology has improved life and healthcare, it has also created our biggest problems – loneliness, obesity, pollution, corruption and climate change.

Other questions we have discussed have included ‘What is the individual’s role in society’, ‘What creates’ and ‘Is time real’?

For those wanting to think and talk about the juiciest topics, come along to Philosophers’ Club, every Monday 3.15pm – 4.30pm in H3A.
