ICT Department

I’m often asked by friends and family to help with their ICT needs. This hasn’t really changed through COVID and the multiple lockdowns we have endured, only changing the way in which I deliver support and advice to them.  I’m also often asked about what is the number one resource we have in our ICT Department, is it a great new technology, or system?  It’s an easy one for me, as its always our fantastic staff, not the technology or systems we support, but our staff who rise to the everyday challenge of ICT support and operations and to be experts in everything that requires power.

Mazenod College is known for our sense of culture and community with our staff and students, both past and present.  I am now coming up to my third year with the college, and this sense of culture and community is something I have tried to build with my team as well.

When I first joined Mazenod as the ICT Manager, my team was made up of two Network and Systems Administrators, one IT Trainee who was working across level 1 and level 2 technical and systems support, one Audio Visual Support Technician, and one outsourced technician providing level 1 technical support and laptop repairs.

As a college, we have been through numerous change over the last few years, with lots of new systems being introduced to meet the many needs we have to operate efficiently and effectively in our core business of educating young men. This has led to some changes in the makeup of the ICT Team. The college recognised our need to develop our use of data, and soon after I arrived, we welcomed a Data Analyst into our team.  Shortly after, our IT Trainee moved into corporate ICT, which allowed us to restructure, and we developed this role to be a specialised Data and Systems Integrator who also does an exceptional job administrating our databases.  These new positions have complimented our amazing network and systems administrators, who have all been instrumental in the last few years of rapid change and forced growth through home learning and lockdowns.

We are into the sixth year of our 1 to 1 laptop program. Having let the program settle and develop, we feel now is the right time to continue to build the ICT Team and Mazenod College culture by employing our own ICT Technician rather than outsourcing this position to a third party.  In the coming weeks, we will be welcoming Mr Callum Branagan into our team.  Callum comes to us having previously spent six years at an Independent K-12 school. He brings a fresh enthusiasm and strong interpersonal skills to a pivotal role in the college. We look forward to Callum arriving to support students and staff and contributing to Mazenod's strong culture.
