Around The Primary

Dear Parents,

Our two Primary choirs, the Wanju Voices and Primary Singers have worked very hard with Mrs Haydon in preparation for today’s assembly. They were very excited to share their songs in front of families and friends and the Primary community certainly enjoyed their entertaining performances.

Next week we have our scheduled school Photo Days. Please note the days your children will be having their photos taken and ensure that the are in their full school uniform.

Sibling Photos will be taken before school from 8.20am on Monday and Tuesday.  Parents are asked to bring their children to the Exhibition Centre on your preferred morning and remain with them while their photos are taken.

Pre-Kindy classes will be having their photos taken later in the year.

Parents will have an opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher on Friday 26 March or on Monday 29 March (from 3:30pm).

Teachers have worked with your children for just over 8 weeks and will share the knowledge and/or skills your child has exhibited in that time, as well as, future goals for your child. This is also a wonderful opportunity to discuss how parents can support their child’s progress at home.  Sessions will be for 15 minutes only. The booking link will be sent home shortly.

Special thanks to the Parents’ Association for organising today’s morning tea for staff – it was a great way to celebrate the end of another busy week.

Kind regards,

Antoinette De Pinto

Head of Primary

'Be More' - Generosity

The virtue of ‘Generosity’ has been our Project Compassion focus this week.

This virtue of generosity is all about giving to another person freely, without obligation or expectation. Generosity inspires gratitude and gratitude inspires generosity!

In Liturgical Singing this week, the upper primary students talked about two ways of being generous - sharing and giving. The students were able to see and listen to a real harp which had been generously ‘shared’ by Mrs Haydon’s musical friend Christina Rogerson. The students then heard a story of a very generous act of ‘giving’ by one of our own teachers. Mrs Edwards cut her long hair last year and donated it to be made into a wig for people with cancer or alopecia.

Year 4 students brainstormed their thoughts on the virtue of generosity and then wrote an acrostic poem:

Generosity is a wonderful virtue to possess

Everyone can give up their time to help others in need

(Alice Wever 4G)

Nice to be a giving person in the world

Each day I can give other something they don’t have (Harmony Godwin 4B)

Remembering others by sharing resources and time

Open our hearts to others by thinking about others and not myself

(Ruby Townsend 4G)

Sharing things such as our time and energy

can make a difference by helping people in need

(Amelia Biagi 4B)

Thinking of and praying for those less fortunate

You can be generous by being more giving and less selfish (Elliot Hurley 4G)

Special thanks to the Year 4 families for making the delicious muffins for the Shopfront on Monday.  This was another wonderful act of generosity.

Sports Update

Well done to all our Year 5 & 6 students who took part in the West Coast Futsal Tournament on Tuesday.  Both teams competed throughout the day and then played each other in the semi finals, with the JTC Blue team just coming out on top and eventually finishing runners up to the International School of WA in a very exciting grand final!  Well done to all.  Special thanks to Miss Graves for sharing her great coaching skills.

Next Thursday 18 March, selected students from Year 4 to 6 will represent the College at the IPSHA Interschool Swimming Carnival held at Newman College.  Our swimmers will be competing against All Saints College, Newman College and Loreto.

We hope you enjoy this video from the Interhouse Swimming Carnival last week.

Primary Music

Congratulations to the Primary Singers and Wanju Voices choirs on their fantastic performance at assembly today. For a number of young students, this was their first ever performance as part of a choir. After only four rehearsals this year, the students have done exceptionally well to learn the lyrics and music of the new repertoire, as well as vocal exercises, choral etiquette and performance protocols.

The choir students are now preparing for the Holy Week concert which takes place on Monday in the final week of the term. More information will be sent out closer to the concert, however it is important that students attend all choir rehearsals in order to prepare properly for this special event.

If you have any queries regarding primary music, please contact me via email catherine.haydon@cewa.edu.au
