Dance Extravaganza

Last week's Dance Extravaganza showcased what amazing talent we have here at St Joseph’s!  It was a hugely successful event that highlighted a sense of school pride and community spirit.

Not only is learning to dance and perform a lot of fun, it forms part of the K-6 curriculum, supporting two key areas - PDHPE and Creative Arts.  The benefits to dance include:

Improved Physical Health - dancing is a highly physical activity.  Regular practice can increase a child's flexibility, range of motion, physical strength and stamina. The repetitive movements involved in dance can improve muscle tone, correct poor posture, increase balance and coordination and improve overall cardiovascular health.

Socialisation Benefits - dancing is a highly social activity and it can help improve social and communication skills.  Children learn to work as part of a team and develop a greater sense of trust and cooperation. Dance can also help to alleviate nerves and anxiety related to performing in front of an audience.

Educational Benefits - dancing requires practice, discipline and focus; skills that are important when learning in any subject area.  Dancing can help to spark creativity and help children develop an appreciation for the arts.

Improved Self-Esteem - as children learn the movements and postures required in dance, they begin to get a better sense of their bodies.  As they become more comfortable, their confidence and self-esteem also improve.
