Students Understanding The Environment

Senior VCAL students as part of work related skills have been looking at Environmental Industries. The group attended the 2019 Sustainable schools Expo held at Nagle College, where they learnt about the production of solar and wind generated electricity.  The students all got a chance to have a hands on look at sustainable energy production at the energy trailer. Following this the students attended a talk by Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning about protecting species habitat. In addition to  attending the Expo students invited Paul Harvey from Trust For Nature to come and give a presentation to the senior students on pathways into environmental careers.

Donation for the Salvos

For over 100 years the Salvation Army have been supporting and guiding individuals and families who find themselves in need. At times of natural disaster the Salvation Army are always amongst the first to respond, whether it is providing help to flood affected towns or helping those devastated by bush fires who no longer have their homes. Throughout times of individual and family trauma, The Salvation Army provides a shoulder to cry on and complete devoted support into getting any and all people back on track and living the best lives they can.

On Thursday the 10th of October, year 12 VCAL students have organised a donation day for the Salvation Army for all year levels to participate in. The year 12 students have made a tremendous effort to decorate and place donation bins at each hub for any unwanted clothing, sheets and bedding, If you have no clothing items to be donated you can also still do your part and contribute by bringing along any non-perishable items, such as tinned food, cleaning products for kitchen/ bathroom and unopened toiletries.

The year 12 Senior VCAL students have shown great initiative to be able to help The Salvation Army with this donation drive and would really appreciate as much support as possible from all students and parents on the day. So have a look in your wardrobes over the holidays, ask your friends and neighbours for their support, and give what you can.

Reflections From The Senior Hub Desk

2020 College Captain Nominations

The time has come to start the search for our 2020 School Captains from this year’s Year 11 cohort. Qualities that we look for in our school captains other than leadership skills include living our school values, having high aspirations and showing a desire to promote our school and lead our students in a united effort to be the best that they can be. We received over twenty applications and short listed to eight.

I arrived at the College when this year’s Year 11 students were fresh faced Year 7's. It has been so heart-warming for me to see these amazing young people develop into strong, caring and confident individuals.

This week I have observed these students prepare and deliver their prospective college captain speeches to each year level assembly. I have to say I was gobsmacked at the thought, quality and the power that went into every students’ speech. All of the younger students were enthralled to hear their older role models speak about what being a school captain meant to them and the rest of the College community.

Students have all been invited to cast a vote for their preferred male and female captain. Year 7 students will have their opportunity next term. The prospective captains will be interviewed by a panel early next Term and our 2020 College Captains will be in place for the Celebration Assembly on Thursday 17th October where we will wish our 2019 Year 12's well and farewell them from the College.

Year 12 Chemistry Revision

During the second week of the holidays our Year 12 Chemistry class participated in a revision session via the new online platform provided to schools using Cisco WEBEX technology. The program was made possible by the Chemistry Education Association and was beamed into the school from hosts, Manor Lakes P-12 College, North East of Werribee. Students found the 7 hour program probably like a marathon but certainly left the day feeling a lot more confident about the requirements of the upcoming external Chemistry exam in November. Our students were excited to touch base with other students they had previously met through Music and the SEAMS program, as well as striking up new friendships with students from faraway places like Echuca, MIldura and Shepparton.
