MEET THE TEAM @ SCSC

Our 2020 Senior School Leaders

Each fortnight we will feature mini staff bios to help our community get to know more about the dedicated staff team we have at Surf Coast Secondary College. This week we are starting with our Senior School Leaders.

Matthew Waters

What did you do before teaching?

Teaching has been my first ever professional job. I basically went from being a student, to going to University to study teaching to then getting a job as a teacher.

However while I was at University I worked in hospitality managing a pub and doubling up as a cocktail barman.

What subjects do you teach?

I’m currently teaching Health and Human Development at Years 11 and 12 in addition to teaching Health and Physical Education across the junior and middle school.

Why do you love working at SCSC?

The thing that I really enjoy the most about working at Surf Coast is probably my colleagues, everyone is super supportive of each other and great to work with. I’m  also very excited for the new gyms to be built!

What did you do before teaching?

Before teaching I worked in retail. I love clothes so working in a boutique clothing store was lots of fun for me while I studied my Masters of Education. I also travelled, exploring South East Asia and Europe which was amazing.

What subjects do you teach?

I am currently teaching Years 10, 11 and 12 English and Year 7 Drama.

Why do you love working at SCSC?

I love working at SCSC because of the staff and students. We have such a positive, hardworking community and I really enjoy collaborating with our creative and motivated students. I feel that SCSC is a welcoming, engaging space where students feel safe to be challenged and to challenge themselves and the staff here take great pride in what they do. It is amazing to work in such a dedicated environment.
