Principals Report

We are all Learning

Week 3  is nearly over and  I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of our families, teachers and staff for your perseverance and patience navigating these uncertain times.

Through working together you are making remote learning possible, and the positive benefits that will come from this new way of learning will remain long after we are through this pandemic.

The incredible growth in skills for students, parents and staff, is most certainly the positive aspect to this situation. Students are developing independent learning skills that will set them up as incredible life-long learners in Secondary School and beyond.

Parents have the opportunity to learn more about how their children learn and understand the curriculum. In addition, our staff have the opportunity to greatly increase their skills in utilising technology as such an integral part of their teaching practices.

A Day in the Life of Home Learning

The  Scholes Family

The morning begins with Literacy, followed by a Physical Education lesson involving Bike Education.

No time to waste, Harry attends a technology session piecing together a rabbit hutch for his rabbit Fluffy. I am very impressed with your use of the drill. Science and sustainability are next on the timetable with a nature walk looking for insects and tadpoles. Art and craft brings a broad smile to Harry's face joined by his little sister, a budding artist herself Charlie.  All that activity has worked up an appetite so off to the kitchen for some real life mathematics preparing the evening meal. Great job Harry reading the recipe and making sure you have measured out the correct quantities. With great skill you have cut the cucumber into halves and then into quarters. The best part is sitting down to enjoy the meal you have spent creating.

Thanks to the Schole family for sharing their day.

As you can see families, Home Learning doesn't mean that you have to be inside feeling stressed in front of a screen. The one on one time you spend with your child is more than a teacher can do with them all day. You are doing an incredible job of helping your children with their learning.

Thank you from all of us at Great Ryrie.

Please email some family shots if you would like to share your Home Learning experiences.
