The Year 9 Online Assessment Block

With the cancellation of on-site Year 9 Examinations due to the current pandemic lockdown, our Year 9 students will instead commence formal online assessments on Monday 11 October and will conclude on Friday 15 October. The assessments will involve scheduled timed tasks inclusive of reading, working and uploading times or set assignments or project work to be completed and uploaded online over the Block period.

Assessment Block pre-task information for each course will be issued to students by Monday 13 September. Students are encouraged to seek clarification with their class teachers regarding the pre-task information prior to the commencement of the Assessment Block.

The Year 9 Online Assessment Block Timetable will be emailed to students and their parents/cares along with the Online Assessment Rules for Years 7 to 10 Students by the end of this week. Both documents are also available on Canvas. Students are reminded to thoroughly familiarise themselves with this documentation, as well as the College’s Assessment Policy posted on Canvas early in first term of this year.

Ignorance of the College’s Assessment Policy or online assessment rules will not constitute a valid excuse and penalties will be incurred for breaches of rules, policy and procedures.

In particular, in the event of absenteeism due to illness or misadventure during the online assessment block, parents/carers and students are reminded that a telephone call to the Year 9 Coordinator, Mr Herro, must be made no less than 30 minutes before the scheduled start of the assessment. Where possible, an alternate task for the missed assessment will be arranged within the Assessment Block period. Immediately on the student’s return, a medical certificate for the illness or misadventure must be submitted to Mr Herro and the relevant Faculty Leader.

I wish all our Year 9 students well in their preparation and completion of these important assessments.

Year 10 McGlade Scholarship Examinations

In 1998, Brother James Athanasius McGlade celebrated 70 years as a Christian Brother. To mark this significant anniversary of a man who played so long and vital a role in the history of the College, the then Province Leader, Brother Julian McDonald, suggested that the College consider the establishment of an academic scholarship.

The College is proud to offer The McGlade Scholarships to boys currently enrolled at the College entering Year 11 in 2022. The rationale for the scholarships is the promotion of a love of learning and academic excellence.

Successful applicants will be selected through their performance in examinations conducted on Thursday 14 October 2021.
