What a time to have been in lockdown! I for one was thrilled to have a little more time to support our champion Olympians on Channel 7's live broadcast. The coverage and achievements of our athletes was certainly the best we’ve seen. When we pair this with the announcement of Brisbane as the 2032 Olympic host, my heart skips a beat knowing we’ll have all the globe's most talented athletics at our doorstep!

Having worked in performance sport for several years, I knew many athletes and coaches who were in Tokyo. The sacrifice many of these people have made to pull on the national uniform is not often known. They say it takes ten years to make an Olympian. Does this mean that there could be a future Olympian here, in our community? I like to think so.

We have many talented athletes; some I know well while others are quietly chipping away at the process of improvement. We love hearing of the success of the students, promoting these moments and, of course, seeing how they can contribute and lift our own teams.

We are now in the process of collecting information for our 2021 sporting awards. We encourage students and parents to nominate their peer or child for a relevant award. Whilst many of the awards are tied to internal college spots, our ‘Sportsperson of the Year’ award also considers achievements at an external level. Further information regarding nominations will be shared via our College App notices this week, so stay tuned!
