Year 12 Formal - Good Luck to our 2019 Year 12 Students

It was a privilege to attend the Year 12 Formal on Saturday 16th November 2019.

All of our students looked amazing. Congratulations to Year 12 Year Adviser, Mr. Curran and the Year 12 organising team for their work to ensure that this year's formal was a great success. It was wonderful to catch up with our very relaxed, post HSC Examination students and their families. It was also satisfying to learn that most of our students have already received notification of early entry to the universities of their choice.

The past few weeks have been a particularly challenging time for our region. The decision to close the school for two days was made by the NSW Department of Education. The following statement was released by the NSW Department of Education;

‘Throughout the recent unprecedented weather conditions and bush fire activity, the Department, in conjunction with the Rural Fire Service and State Emergency Services, made informed decisions, which were strongly based on safety considerations, when determining the operational status of each school.' The Department of Education has student safety and wellbeing as its highest priorities.

At Guyra Central School we continually try to provide opportunities for our students to demonstrate their learning and skills within their preferred learning modes. Last week a team of beautiful young dancers travelled to Tamworth to participate in the CAPERS dance spectacular. 2,000 students assembled at the Tamworth Regional Centre and entertained a very well attended event. Congratulations girls and a huge thanks to Mrs Sarah Farmer and Mrs Natasha Roberts for their support and organisation.

On Friday 1st November 2019, Guyra Central School secondary students Ashleigh and Fletcher Richardson  attended the CHSSA Trap Shooting Competition which was held in Tamworth. Fletcher and Ashleigh both had an extremely successful day. Ashleigh completed the day placing 2nd in the B Grade section for point score and 1st in B Grade Double Rise.  Fletcher completed the day as New South Wales champion after placing 1st in B Grade Double Rise, overall single barrel winner, AA point score winner, AA point score winner, AA double barrel winner and overall high gun winning team member.  Congratulations to Ashleigh and Fletcher on this amazing achievement.

Guyra Central School 13s boys small schools rugby league squad were extended an invitation to attend the Armidale Sports Council 20th annual awards night, held on Thursday 14th November 2019. Our boys were awarded  Junior Team of the Year - Best State Team, following their success, winning the Small Schools Championships in August 2019. Thanks to Mr Scott Miller and the Mr Mike Birmingham for their support and efforts.

On Friday 1st November Brooke Grills and Courtney Reeves travelled to Ashford Showground to attend the Ashford Central School Horse Sports Day. Courtney attained the highest point score in the 16 years plus age group and Brooke was outstanding in the 13 years age group.

Last week our new Pods arrived and were placed into the Primary Quad. This is the beginning of putting the Primary Quad Action Plan into place. Mrs Meagan Vidler and her hard working Stage 3 Planning Team created the designs for the Quad and now they will see their plans come to fruition. Thanks for your efforts. It is already looking great.

Our strategic and operational planning is already well under way for 2020. We will continue to provide a future-focused, personalised curriculum for our students. Our funding allocation is now with the school and I can ensure all parents and the community that Guyra Central School will be very well resourced during 2020. Please come and see me if you have any ideas for next year.
