Champion in Merino Challenge

Year 12 Calrossy student, Megan Seis, had a huge weekend (May 25 - 26) in Sydney competing in the National Merino Challenge, a two-day national breeding competition which aims to improve the engagement of young people in the Merino industry.

Megan, who is a Boarder from Dunedo,  returned from the two day competition as the Champion in the Merino Challenge in the Secondary Division, as well winning the Breeding and Production Challenges.

The Challenge is held by Australia Wool Innovation and involves a series of mini tasks designed to evaluate the students’ knowledge of Merino breeding and selection, production and fleece.

Calrossy Careers Advisor, Mr Charles Impey, said it was the first time a high school student from Northern NSW had pariticipated in the event, let alone won the prestigious title of Champion.

Megan, who turned 18, only on Friday was up against 161 other students in the challenge from across Australia.

It’s not the only exciting extra-curricular event on Megan’s calendar this year, the budding scientist has also been selected to attend the London International Youth Science Forum in July and August this year. This prestigious forum has a focus on science, technology, engineering and maths and their importance in our communities.
