Exploring Environments

Designing Sustainable Cities – My Green City Project - Greenhill Farm

For the past few weeks, the Year 9 Exploring Environments class had been involved in creating a sustainability related project called the ‘My Green City’ Project. The aim is to build and design (either using Minecraft and/or making a 3D model) a sustainable, livable and Eco-smart city plan for the possible future for people to live and work in an environmentally sustainable way using existing or soon to exist technologies (eg: driverless vehicles) and products to provide a healthy and enjoyable place. We have watched videos to inspire us on ideas such as the Masdar City documentary and War on Waste episode. Our city had to include solutions related to Energy, Food, Nature, Transport and Waste and we were required to create a city layout sketch plan, City Charter, City Shield, City motto along with either the 3D model or Minecraft World. We were also required to present our city to the class.

Our group was Karla Roets, Mayah Obamwonyi, Chloe Ryan and Chloe Cedeno

We decided to create a sustainable farm on Minecraft called Greenhill Farm!

The 1st photo shows the solar panel/daylight sensors on top of the farmhouse and the 2nd photo shows the front of the farmhouse with a sign, reading “Welcome to our house” and the Book and Quill Farm Charter.

The 1st photo (left) shows the Recycle Bin (on the left of the photo), a ‘2.5 Meter Horse Park’ sign, a ‘No Plastic Past this Point’ sign, the ‘Compost’ bin and the entry to the farm. The 2nd photo (bottom) shows several trees, the ‘Greenhill house ahead’ sign, the farm path and the farm ahead. The 3rd photo (right) shows the recycling llama who takes out the recycling and compost, the ‘Welcome to Greenhill Farm (Don’t Be Mean) (Be Green), two signs saying Speed [10] and the farm entry.

The photo shows the front of the horse stable and Horse Stable sign.

The photo shows the inside of the Seaweed and Coral Farm below/at the back of the farm house with animals and a fountain.

The 1st photo shows the bedroom. The 2nd photo shows the living/lounge room inside the farmhouse with the solar panels and solar glass windows. The 3rd photo shows the kitchen with a kitchen bench and seats. The 4th photo shows the bathroom with the shower, the sink and the toilet.

The 1st photo shows the daylight sensors/solar panels off at daytime to let natural light in. The 2nd photo shows the daylight sensors/solar panels on at night-time to be used in the dark.

The photo shows the Crop/Food/Vegie Farm with a scarecrow.

The photo shows the paddock for the cows to be free in (along with the horse stable in the front and trees in the back).

The photo shows a birds’ eye view of the bird house (top left), the bee farm (below the bird house), the animal farm with the chickens, rabbits, pigs, cows and sheep (to the right), several trees with some animals, a water well, part of the crop farm, more trees around, part of the paddock and part of the horse stable. You can also see the dirt trail leading to the different buildings.

The 3 photos above are the Book and Quill Farm Charter. This explains and states all the features of our Greenhill Farm and the photos above. Our motto is: Don’t be mean, be Green!

The photo to the left is our City Shield with our motto at the bottom!
