Year 11 Camp

Lake Dewar Lodge

This year, our year 11 cohort had the opportunity to go on a VCE camp to Lake Dewar Lodge.

When we arrived, we were greeted with welcoming smiles and were introduced to the friendly staff. We were soon doing activities from the flying fox that went over an amazing canyon, to water sports such as canoeing and kayaking. Everyone had a ball on the first day and even the teachers involved themselves in some of the activities. After dinner that night we were all invited into the main space to participate in Malcolm's Famous Trivia as well as playing a bunch of fun mini games throughout the night.

Day 2 held a big surprise for all of us. We were split into different groups and went on an Amazing Race! 16 challenges needed completing, such as off-road Go-Karting, giant paddle-boarding and archery, to name a few. It was very competitive with the top 2 teams being split by the finest of margins and ultimately a little friendly booing and banter between teams made it an enjoyable day for everyone.

On the final night of our camp we were given choices by the teachers. We were able to stay in the main space and play board games or use some equipment such as the pool table and the foosball table, or we were able to go outside and sit around a campfire with friends, eating roasted marshmallows and looking at the stunning night sky.

In addition to all of the activities provided by YMCA staff, Mr Malcolm and the Year Level Coordinates ran a ‘My Future’ and a ‘Resilient Me’ workshop that provided us with the information, skills and resources we need to tackle our last 18 months of secondary school. We were promised fun through all 3 days and that was a promise well-kept by the wonderful staff at Lake Dewar Lodge.

We highly recommend this camp to any year 10s moving into year 11 VCE next year that want to have an endless amounts of fun and laughs with your mates and want to make memories through your senior years of Epping Secondary College.
