Maroondah Highway Level Crossing Removal Project

The boom gates at Maroondah Highway will be gone and the new station will be open by Christmas, months ahead of schedule.
Works on the Maroondah Highway level crossing removal project are progressing with strict COVIDsafe Plans in place. The health and safety of our workforce and community remain our top priority. For more information and advice about COVID-19, please visit coronavirus.vic.gov.au.
This works alert provides an overview of our planned construction activities and changes to the way you will travel in the area from Monday 9 August, 2021.
Transport | Planned travel changes |
Lilydale line services | Buses replacing trains between Ringwood and Lilydale station from 8:30pm Friday 6 August to last service Sunday 8 August.

Maroondah Highway | Maroondah Highway is reduced to a single traffic lane across the level crossing until 10 September 2021.
Road users are advised to follow signage and use Cave Hill Road, Beresford Road and Anderson Street to continue towards their destinations safely. Oversized vehicles and trucks should use Mount Dandenong Road to avoid works near the level crossing. |
William Street East & West | Full closure during the day and night with pedestrian access maintained. |
John Street | Open to traffic with shuttle flow arrangement in place. |
Train replacement buses | Train replacement buses will drop off and collect passengers on the Main Street service road, adjacent to the Lilydale Station Eastern car park (outside Yarra Valley Fish and Chips). Five accessible car spaces and the taxi rank have been relocated to the Main Street service road, close to the train replacement bus stop. |
Pedestrian crossing on Maroondah Highway | The pedestrian crossing over the railway line to the north side of Maroondah Highway (Lilydale Station side) has been closed until a new crossing over Maroondah Highway opens later in 2021. |
