Girls 9-A -Side Football

On Friday the 18th June 14 girls went out and played 6 football games at Hisense Oval to win the Westies Shield. The captains include Isla and Taylor and the rest of the players include Lila, Layla, Poppy, Annie, Elena, Elena, Areeba, Sophia, Vasilia, Kristen, Mia and Yana.

The day included 6 games which we played against 4 different schools. There was good competition but no match for us. 

We won the first two games but when it came around to the third game it didn’t always come down to our end and we had to fight extra hard. All games were tough as we progressed we got better and better as a team to win the Shield. The other schools were great and they had good skills and they were good to play footy with and have some fun.

We had lots of fun playing these games as we cheered everyone on. Then we got to play in the semi final which we won and then we got into the grand final, nerves were rolling in but we came through and WON! 

There was a canteen that we could go to and get some food so that we could have energy to play the next game. 

At first we were all a bit scared because most of us were first time players or they just don’t play for a team. We had a lot of fun playing a sport that some of us have never played and we had a great time getting out and playing in the mud and getting dirty. 

After we won I think we were all really happy because we had put all our hard work into trying to win. We all came in the morning thinking that we were going to lose or not be that great, but we all did so well that we won the Westies Shield for 2021! 

We would like to thank Mr Smith for making this all happen, Mr Grinham for buying us some pizza after our win and Chad for being our coach and leading us to victory. 

We are now competing in the Crows Cup with hopefully the same team and we hope to win again.
