Improving biodiversity at Merri Station

A combined force of students from Year 9 Duke of Ed, Year 10 Environmental Engineering and Unit 2 VCE Outdoor Education have been hard at work at Merri Station putting in over 450 plants next to Platform 2. This included 180 plants on Schools National Tree Day on Friday 30 July. The students will also be completing more activities this term to finish planting and some mulching.

This project came about after Northcote High School and the Merri Stationeers Group were successful in applying for a grant of $ 7500 from Darebin Council in 2019. The grant was part of the Caring for Our Local Environments (COLE) Initiative, to support local community groups to deliver projects which encourage people to take action for the environment.

After not being able to start the project in 2020, we are excited to have finally got underway this year. There have also been three community events held since May, with   another one coming up on Sunday 22 August. We would love to have local community members helping out on the day, see the flyer below for information - please join us!
